For the World Rally Championship, the 1980s was a decade of drama, controversy, triumph, tragedy and, most importantly, Champions. Explosive archive footage from famous events like the RAC, Monte-Carlo and 1000 Lakes rallies charts the road to victory of the seven men who would reign supreme in the 1980s, and recalls the awesome skills, bitter rivalries and fierce competition which made this such an unforgettable era. Rally Champions of the 1980s recalls the story of each title battle, with edge-of-the-seat footage from the special stages of the world showing these greats at their best. We discover how the stars overcame the odds – and each other – to claim championship glory, and what else the decade held in store for these legends. For many fans, the cars were as much the stars as the drivers, and Rally Champions of the 1980s shows exactly why. This is a chance to revel in full-blooded action featuring the icons of the decade, including the Audi Quattro, Sierra Cosworth, Toyota Celica and Lancia Delta, plus Group B rockets like the Peugeot 205 T16, Metro 6R4, Lancia S4 and Ford RS200. This DVD also pays tribute to two other great names of the 1980s, title contender Michelle Mouton, the first woman to win a World Rally Championship event, and the incredible Markku Alen, who held the title for just a handful of days in 1986. This was a decade of massive change, monster machines, spectator madness, terrible tragedy and some of the closest World Rally Championship battles ever seen – prepare to meet the Rally Champions of the 1980s!
